Thanks to freedom of speech, Christian writers can share their faith online to encourage others. Sadly, many misuse this privilege to criticise believers they disagree with. Some are genuine in their concerns about false doctrine, while others only want to air the most slanderous of accusations about other ministries.
These are the unruly ones, not accountable to anyone, they abuse freedom of speech to dish up all the dirt they can find online and in the absence of evidence resort to offensive name-calling. This is so sad, and harmful to the Kingdom of God.
Why would they do this?
- They believe they have all the truth and have an extremely limited view of what it is to be a Christian. They think they are somehow doing God a favour and their slander will somehow help.
- They must be under the deception that God has called them to do this, when in fact Jesus instructed His disciples to love one another and to pray for their enemies.
- They use the fact that Jesus collectively called certain groups ‘hypocrites’, ‘a generation of vipers’, etc to justify targeting individuals with personal insults. They have obviously not read Matthew 5:22, which instructs believers not to even call a brother ‘a fool’ .
The truth is that Satan is the ‘Accuser of the Brethren’ and believers should have no part in making slanderous accusations, without proof. And even when they have concerns there is a Biblical process to follow. God has not called believers to slander each other and when a fellow believer does fall, our heart should be towards restoration.
“Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which arc spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.” (Galatian 6:1)
Beware the unruly Christian blogger who sets himself / herself up as a so called ‘sleuth-hound’. The kind that makes clandestine invitations to extract information from the staff of major ministries, to spread gossip. This cannot be pleasing to God. God is pleased when his people are in unity because that is where He commands a blessing.
