Christian TV under attack like never before?

Just 20 years ago Christian TV was in its infancy in the United Kingdom. Today there are some 17 channels on the SKY satellite platform.  It seems there is a growing demand for different streams of Christian television, and sufficient interest amongst British viewers to sustain so many Christian networks. However there is also much criticism targeted at particular Christian series and at particular networks. The irony is that the most venomous attacks seem to be coming from other believers. This is not a good witness to the world. It seems Christian TV is under attack like never before and Bible believers need to rally to trust God for His intervention.

GOD TV, Revelation TV, TBN, Daystar, UCB, Inspiration, LoveWorld, The Gospel Channel, The Word Network, EWTN, Faith World, KICC TV, Believe TV, Olive TV, SBN, Flow TV and ACBN. These are the 17 Christian Channels on SKY, in EPG sequence and reflecting a mix of channels from British, American, European and African backgrounds. While many of the schedules feature similar daily series, each has a unique appeal to viewers. And each seems to have it’s own fair share of criticism.

There are those who dismiss Christian networks outright as being part of ‘broad road’ Christianity, i.e. not part of the narrow way, and have nothing positive to say about Christian programming. There are others whose major gripe is the fund raising methods used by channels like TBN, DayStar, SBN and GOD TV who have Praise-a-thons or Missions Weeks. And of course since the demise of Jim Bakker and Jimmy Swaggart, there have been those who belittle Christian networks due to their leader’s fall from grace.

The Internet has  provided a platform for Christians, who feel they are being discerning, to criticise, discredit and put down other ministries as if they were doing God a favour. While we are all called to be wary of wolves in sheep’s clothing and of being deceived by false prophets, we need to realise that though we differ on doctrine, salvation in Jesus Christ remains the single most important factor. We shouldn’t be wasting our time going around and bad-mouthing others when there is a lost world to win to Christ.

Fund raising will always be a difficult issue for some people, however it is clear that Christian media can only operate in partnership with listeners and viewers who catch the vision of the network and chose to support it. Holding telethons to gain support for Christian television is just as honourable as the BBC raising funds on air for Children In Need, if not more so, because we are dealing with people’s eternal destiny. Yes, nobody wants to be manipulated and you can’t buy a miracle. If you think you are –  just switch channels or turn your television off.

God blesses us to be a blessing to others, He loves to see His children working together in unity. He has called us to do our part in the Great Commission and that takes, time, effort and money. He has also called us to be cheerful givers, not stingy. When we partner with Christian networks, we are reaching beyond ourselves, our church, our community to reach people on the other side of the world we don’t even know, but we play a part in their salvation experience. It is the power of Christian media. The power of partnership.

Regarding the moral failure, adultery of Christian leaders, call it what you like. It was been shocking to hear accusations brought against Paul Crouch, the late founder of TBN and most recently Wendy Alec’s tearful account of Rory Alec leaving her for another woman. Some have identified this as the end of GOD TV, that the network “is on the skids.” But other networks like DayStar have survived this and more. DayStar’s Marcus Lamb confessed to having had an affair, his wife Joni forgave him and the network seems stronger than ever. Our God is truly the God of Restoration and even when our leaders fail, He remains faithful.

It seems GOD TV’s viewers are rallying around Wendy Alec which is commendable. It looks like they see this for the enemy attack it is and are believing God to turn the whole situation around. That GOD TV was not set up by man but by God Himself and He is not going to allow it to go down the tubes.  It is also encouraging to see Christian networks standing together, an example of this the statements made in support of GOD TV by Howard Conder of Revelation TV and Chris Cole of Cross Rhythms Christian Radio. We need so see more of this.

I once recall an interview I did with Bible prophecy expert, the late Barry Smith. I asked him about a particular woman minister and best selling author who was adored by some Christians and reviled by others. “If we are in doubt, what should we do?” I asked. His reply was clear from Galatians 5, “If you bite and devour each other, you will be destroyed by each other.”

Galatians 5: 13-15 – “You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.”

It is time for Christians to walk together in unity, to fight side by side for the extension of the Kingdom of God, in the face of the many, many attacks the evil one is bringing against us. Should we really be fighting each other when 68% of Christian men are addicted to pornography, to use just one example. Christian values are being eroded every day through and we cannot afford to dismiss Christian networks. The  Christian media is the only mass initiative we have, to mobilise believers on a global scale. It’s time to stand together in the battle of the airwaves.

I am a retired reporter and have been on British television during my career. I am also a Christian having been introduced to Christ in the 1970s. I was baptised in the Holy Spirit at a prayer meeting of all places at drug rehabilitation centre run by Christian volunteers.
Having grown in the Lord over these years and have asked Him for two gifts of the Holy Spirit to be manifested in my life which He has allowed, when contending the Faith, the Lord has brought to my attention how the Christian Church has been infiltrated by devious methods. Also the major changes that have altered the image of the Charismatic Movement. So far this has not been good. Teachings have changed as well as congregations. Splinter movements have appeared together with a number of doctrines one of which is the prosperity doctrine. Some groups having been saying that the church has replaced Israel while others are following the line of taking towns, cities, and nations for Jesus (this has never happened). And it is going from bad to worse when folk at church are expected to follow their leaders instead of Christ. When one disagrees over an important biblical matter, principle, or instruction, that person or persons are told to leave and go elsewhere to find another church. Investigative journalism is what I have been doing and my findings in the city where I live, is that church congregations consist of established members, people that come and go, and those who have left other churches. This is so with the well known churches, independent fellowships, and those calling themselves part of a movement such as the Apostolic Movement.
The use of the word “revival” has become a misconception within the Christian Church. Outside of the church system it is unnoticeable. The effects of having a revival meeting does not affect the community. It does not increase church attendance to those already going to church, only those leaving other churches. And church membership is either constant, ticking over, or if people leaving, is in decline.
The instructions given in the Bible is to “go ye” for those following Christ. Today, contrary to the Great Commission, it is “stay ye” for the fear of what might happen outside of church buildings such as being taken to court for preaching the Good News which may offend another religions. Another excuse is political correctness. Church leaderships expect people to go to church to hear the preaching of a certain person in the pulpit, to hear what God has to say to them, and endure the formality of a church service. This is not what the disciples of Christ did in the New Testament and neither did Christ for they “went Ye” into the world and that included John the Baptist.
When I see on christain television channels programmes geared to tickle the ears of viewers and the folk who are Christians, and televangelists proclaiming that God is going to do this and that for people and for nations, stories made without evidence to what He has done, are misleading and are fables. They do not resemble anything like the parables as described by Christ. The emphasis is on money by those on television.
One thing apparent in the use of modern equipment for communication is that of television, radio, computers, telephones, and mobile phones, can be disconnected anytime or go down without warning. When people are being indoctrinated to shop on line, use the internet for banking, make use of twitter and facebook, and to make way for new devices coming our way replacing direct face to face contact and not seeing folk as they are, has anybody thought about what might be following? Once banks, post offices, local shops, community facilities, public buildings, etc, are closed due to being no longer used and considered obsolete and not cost effective to run because everything has been centralised, what will follow once people have been accustomed to all of this? What will happen to church buildings not given a licence to open? And what will happen to those churches who do not allow clerics from other religions to preach what they believed to be?
Perhaps I can throw some light on this! With the financial state of affairs taking place, the Mark of the Beast will replace everything new being introduced and for the folk having to rely on their equipment, can easily be switched off at the source operating from without warning, and thus allowing in the new method of buying and selling. So simple!
Persecution will be predominant for the Body of Christ before the Rapture takes place. If folk wish to go through the Great Tribulation that will be their choice. Christian web sites will be removed.
Now what will happen to those on Christian TV stations whose wealth has been made at the expense of others when the plug is pulled? I am sure the one world government will have use of the money made unless of course one changes their alliance to the world leader and his right hand man, the False Prophet. That will be another story to write, but as a spirit filled bible believer, I won’t be around to investigate. Praise God the Almighty!

    Hi

It seems that all Christian Media eventually bows the knee to those who provide its finances. I saw it with Premier Christian Radio and it is blatantly clear on the God channel that it is dominated by the influence of Rome and ecumenism.

The Vatican II ecumenical mandate to infiltrate evangelical churches in order to bring the “separated” christians back into the Catholic fold, is clearly working. Financially abundant ecumenical groups like Word of faith, NAR (eg IHOP) and Catholic churches are the ones with the most financial clout. It is obvious that they have virtually taken over most of christian tv and radio media channels with all their wild and wacky teachings and behaviour.

It is THESE that are bringing the true faith into disrepute and not those who oppose such godless antics and lying visions. These seem to be who Paul was referring to in 1 Timothy 6:5

“men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself”

This is why we oppose christian media. I would be very happy to see/support courageous owners who would risk themselves financially, trusting their survival by faith who would refuse a platform to any individual who is or comes from an ecumenical or faulty background. If Christian media is to be properly effective it needs to stand up for the truth unapologetically, being careful to teach the unadulterated Word of God and weed out anything with any appearance of evil.

If I see that, then you can be sure that I would applaud, rather than criticise them.

Regarding the unity you mention. Unity (ecumenism) with Rome and/or other religions or with false Christian groups who are also joined to Rome and/or new age is a FALSE unity. Thje bible teaches us to come out of such false unity. True unity is true born again believers fellowshipping together ie true brothers/sisters “how blessed it is when BROTHERS dwell together in unity, for there the Lord commands the blessing. There can NEVER be Holy Spirit unity when the truth is compromised for the sake of peace.

Reblogged this on The Governmental Goals of God TV Part II and commented:
Chris Cole, Wendy Alec and God TV or Cross Rhythms Staff it could be anyone you give yourselves away under the fraudelent cover of so -called Christian don’t criticise Christian Media watch (!!!!! wtf!!))). I asked you a question WHO ARE YOU? I HAVE HAD NO ANSWER. WHO THE FUCK ARE YOU. You are just Fergus Scarfe dressed up as a partisan biased Christian Media Organisation. you have been found out. I noticed that God TV had awards given by their mates in CBC themselves another front for the governmental goals of God TV and those espousing dominionist extra biblical doctrines.

We are an independent group of Christian writers. We do not represent any one particular Christian Network or station. GOD TV has been a key focus due to its prominence as a pioneer and also due to its current leadership crisis. None of our writers are included in the list of names you have mentioned so please don’t credit them for our articles. We don’t want to focus on personality but on message. Our message is that the Christian media needs to do better and all believers need to work together to acccomplish this. Let’s work together Kate. God bless you.

As our About section states: Christian Media Watch is a group of Media Professionals who are committed to monitoring Christian TV, Radio, Newspapers, Magazines, Websites, blogs and social media platforms to see how these can be improved to provide a greater witness to the world of the truth of the Gospel.

First of all Kate, there is no need to swear and shout by using capital letters. Your comments are noted.
Second, those involved in Christian Media Watch. Please don’t be biased or naïve as to what goes on with programmes broadcast on Christian TV channels. It is becoming obvious to those discerning the content of programmes that the Word of Faith preachers dominate God TV, TBN, DayStar TV and Inspiration TV, some of which have been investigated for fraud and tax evasion to include tv evangelists and their organisations. Even Revelation TV, who broadcast programmes of Joy Meyer, Jesse Duplantis, John Hagee, Andrew Wommack , etc , and are associated with the Word of Faith Movement, is currently being investigated by the Charity Commission, which Christian Media Watch has failed to report or mention.
When charismatic and Word of Faith preachers dominate Christian television, you fail to warn your readers what false doctrines they peddle. You also fail to mention prophecies they make on television which so far all have not been fulfilled and which they continue to do so without question or what authority they have been given by God.
How can you give credit, for example, to Rory Alec as a prophet of God when he was making prophecies on tv on behalf of God and committing adultery? This is not biblical!
Yes, he may repent, but as with so many Word of Faith preachers who have found to be committing adultery, how can they return as prophets of God and the same role they had left? Wendy Alec has spoken so many prophecies on television about what God is going to do, it reminds me that the role they are playing is that they are God’s personal secretary.
I am close to God Almighty and He has told me the contrary regarding “revival” which tv stations such as God TV keep plugging. For judgement has begun in the house of the Lord and there will be a falling away from the Truth in the End Times. But then, Christian tv stations, which are controlled by the Word of Faith preachers, would not allow me to say such on television. They would lose money because they want viewers to sow their financial seeds under the pretence of receiving God’s blessing.
It appears that Christian Media Watch wants unity. But I would say at what price? For you have already mentioned elsewhere about serving the “broad church.” What about the straight and narrow which the Lord Jesus Christ tells us about in the gospels of the New Testament.
And I would agree about deception which has already been mentioned on this web site. It is ripe within the Christian Church. And I have to say that Christian Media Watch may be a professional body of people, but when it comes down to being watchmen, you have failed in your duties in reporting matters which within the church is leading its members astray and into apostasy. And finally, I have experience in reporting matters of concern in a manner which has been in love having been grounded in the Word of God. But alas, due to not being a Charismatic, a Baptist, an Anglican, a Methodist, nor a person who goes to an established church, the Christian media are not interested which ordinary folk have to say. Like what is called Christian television they are only interested if you are a celebrity or leaders having a large following.
So I would suggest that Christian Media Watch make some adjustments because the religious church and its foundations is crumbling due to false teachings and prophecies.

Thanks for your comment – we seek to monitor Christian TV and see how it can be improved. We are fully aware of the excesses that can be seen on Christian TV. Our heart is to bring balance and your comments are helpful in this respect. You rightly point out that the Word of Faith message seems to dominate, however there are many other voices bringing different perspectives. It is up to the viewer to make up their own mind as the Holy Spirit leads them. We are aware of Revelation TV’s issues with the charity commission and have tweeted about this, saying that we have to do better. So we have actually reported on this and will do so future. Revelation needs to get its house in order and this is what it seems to be doing.

Can’t comment on prophecies unless you mention something specific. Nobody can claim to be God’s personal secretary. We know in part and we prophesy in part – only. However that does not mean we shouldn’t share prophetic revelations (backed up by scripture). It is sad that Rory Alec was in adultery and it seems he continued to be on TV during at least some part of his affair. Can you imagine the turmoil he must have been going through? Trying to continue his calling in the media glare, while dealing with his sin? He messed up, he was wrong, but that does not necessarily discredit what he said on air.

Adultery is wrong. It is sin. Those who engage in it cause devastation to all around them and though God forgives, they will have to live out the consequences of their action. Yes God does bring healing but it is still painful. Restoration takes much longer. Christian celebrity has to go. Balanced Christian leadership must replace it. Servant leaders who are Christlike. Who lead by example are what we need.

We are all for highlighting issues of questionable theology and bringing these to the fore. Please feel free to contribute to this forum, as much as you are able.

This is what Morris Cerullo said in prophecy on 29 Jan 2013 for the United States of America
“Thus saith the Lord, “I will kindle a fresh fire, a new love, and a renewed passion in the heart of the nation for the land. This fire will burn every dry tree and every green tree until all are consumed by its engulfing flame. I will ignite this fire and spread the flames across the nation.
There will soon be a breaking down of these divisions, which are keeping My House divided. A sovereign move and fresh fire will consume these barricades of men and boundaries of ancient powers. I will cause them to become united on the Kingdom agenda for this nation.

It appears the John’s comments (who is a fellow journalist) and links have been removed where he provided evidence of the prophetic utterances made by Word of Faith preachers which have proven to be false and how such people have taken over Christian TV channels in building their empires. So I would say to Christian Media Watch, if you consider yourselves as a professional body, from a retired reporter, kindly rethink as to what you have done by censoring Christians who differ from your point of view. And why? I can only say that what the secular media does in reporting spiritual matters by editing and twisting words to suit readerships, you are doing likewise, and are hiding what you actually believe to be so and teachings you follow.
Please come clean in these matters. And why? There are other Christian journalists who view your web site, like myself, and will not recommend it due to religious censorship and failing to report what actually goes on behind the scenes what is called Christian television and the Christian media.

    Hi John

I don’t think the comments came from yourself but came from a John who signed as “John, a journalist and a Christian” as far as I can remember. His comments and links to Word of Faitth preachers who over the past few years made prophetic utterances on Christian TV channels and recently at the beginning of 2014 over what God was going to do. As far as I can remember these included Benny Hinn, Morris Cerullo, Rory and Wendy Alec, Steve Munsey and so forth.
These prophecies were not fulfilled. The question arose was why did not Christian Media Watch did not report these matters and why are these preachers accepted as prophets and of course as teachers. For the biblical definition is that they are nothing but false prophets. Again, what John provided as evidence is that for the likes of Joyce Meyer, etc, they live luxurious lifestyles by living in mansions, having properties and items worth millions of pounds, have their own jet airliners, expensive cars, and security guards. John compared the evidence to that of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Fortunately I saw what he wrote and the links provided before they were removed on Christian Media Watch. Hence I made my comments about the situation.
So I will say to them again, why did they do this because their actions remind me of censorship.
One question I would ask what are they hiding? And another why they excluded John, as a journalist, when he provided ample evidence to Christian Media Watch as a professional body covering the media, did this without any justification or explanation.
I would suggest that brother John presents details and evidence again for you and others to view and check out the content he provided.
I feel Christian Media Watch will not allow this due to the fact they what unity – but at what cost which John asked.

Sorry Peter and the two Johns, it appears that John’s comments and links have been removed once again.
Christian Media Watch said this in a previous response “Can’t comment on prophecies unless you mention something specific.” Those running this web site also mentioned this “We are all for highlighting issues of questionable theology and bringing these to the fore. Please feel free to contribute to this forum, as much as you are able.”
These statements can be considered to be worthless and what is the well known phrase aimed at the Church, it is this “they don’t practice what they preach” which is becoming evident.
Christian Media Watch has failed to justify their removal, nor have the professional body has provided any explanation.
So my question to them is – if it is claimed what you do must provide a balance, can Christian Media Watch be trusted without the use of censorship. They also mention Revelation TV being investigated. These details have come to light which I don’t think has been reported in detail. Suggest folk read this from this Christian web site on
    http://bewareofthewolves.blogspot.co.uk/2014/11/revelation-tv-apostasy-and-occult-logo.html
May I suggest too that John who is named to be a journalist and a Christian that you send your comments and links in an e-mail to those known in the Christian media who are not biased and naive , and to those on your address list. I am sure members of the Body of Christ will pass them on after verification, and possibly the details forwarded on to myself.
One thing I have learnt in the last twenty years, the Body of Christ, the true Church, is not this:-
    1) false prophets
    2) the false church
    3) false teachers
    4) man made religious institutions
    5) making money out of Christianity
    6) it does not fleece the flock
    7) creates celebrities for people to be exhorted
8)promotes major religions to be joined together
    9) preaching another gospel
    10) pushing repentance aside for the sake of unity
    11) entertaining signs and wonders based on the occult
    12) people claiming to be the anointed ones
    13) making entertainment to get bums on seats
    14) making use of fads to attract young people into going to church
I am sure other folk could say what the true Church should be in line in which Christ taught.
Now going back what Christian Media Watch said previously and the deletions made, what do they intend to do to rectify this?
If not, how can they be trusted to be watchmen when they appear to be turning a blind eye?
Just a thought on the serious matter that has arisen!

As I was writing my comments on John’s deletion and then submitting them, his comments and links were put back on when doing so.
Glad that Christian Media Watch had second thoughts. Praise the Lord!
I would add as well to my contribution and those making their comments on this web site – Keep watchful for Jesus is coming soon!

Those who masquerade as Christians can be found on TBN and DaySyar. Marcus Lamb is an adulteter and both of the networks shamelessly hold regular begathons. No wonder people mock Christians with pink bouffant wigs and shameless adultere pigs are running things. They live like kings on money donated by the poor schlubs who support them. Shame on them!

Thanks for your comment. Clearly leaders in Christian media need to fix their reputation. Those who are authentic have to show their humility rather than flashing their money if they are to win viewers over. They also need to account for the money they raise, showing exactly where it goes. Christian media does need our financial support but not for its leaders to live in luxury but for the extension of the Kingdom.
